Requirements for nameservers
Registry requirements: name servers must be configured and return a valid response prior to a domain update request.
- When a domain is registered or transferred, the registry checks to see if the name servers you want to use for the domain are already configured. If they are not configured correctly, the registry will not allow you to use them for that domain.
- The registry also checks the IP addresses for the specified name servers. The name servers must be located on different IP networks.
- You can use the DNS Validation Tool to check the name servers before updating.
Registrant information required by the registry
In addition to the standard contact details, the .IS registry requires the following information from the registrant:
- Company number (required)
- ID number (Kennitala) (required)
Open Domain Zone
The IS domain zone is open to anyone without restriction and does not require citizenship or a trademark. It is suitable for everyone from individuals and entrepreneurs to large corporations.
IDN support
A .IS domain name can contain national letters thanks to IDN support. IDN support provides the ability to register domains in different languages, the list of which is determined by each particular domain zone. Domain Names are stored in punycode format as xn--xxxxx. Regery services automatically convert domain names into a readable format to facilitate domain search and registration.
Generic Domain Zone
.IS is a generic domain zone. Generic domain zones are used everywhere, regardless of the type of organization.
