SE.NET is the national second-level domain for Sweden. The zone is managed and maintained by NIC-SE. The maximum registration period for a name in this zone is 1 year.
Until 2003, users who wanted to register a domain in the SE.NET zone had to adhere to strict rules put forward by the official administrator. The same rules limited the freedom of registration of domain names in the SE.NET zone. The right to register was granted only to companies that carried out their activities at the world level. At the same time, these organizations had to give their sites addresses that clearly reflected the official name of the enterprise.
Individuals were given the right to purchase only one domain name in the SE.NET zone. Organizations that had only one domain name in the SE.NET zone could register the address only in the appropriate third-level domain. As a result, addresses in the SE.NET domain zone gained popularity among alternative zones such as .nu and .com.
